A pair of best friends are living their dreams after landing roles in the highly anticipated film adaptation of Wicked. Karis Musongole, 10, and Harriet Ryan, 9, have described their experiences on set as a fairytale come to life. The film, which features renowned artists such as Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, is set to hit theaters soon.
Karis, hailing from Manchester, portrays a younger version of the green-skinned witch Elphaba, while Harriet from Tameside takes on the role of a munchkin in this enchanting prequel to The Wizard of Oz.
Karis expressed her excitement about being part of such an iconic story, stating that the opportunity means a lot to her. She remarked on the beauty of the set and the kindness of her fellow cast members.
“It was incredible to see so many people who were genuinely excited for me,” she shared with BBC Radio Manchester about her experience at the film’s London premiere.
Harriet echoed Karis’s sentiments, calling her time working alongside Ariana Grande “very magical,” emphasizing that it felt like she had stepped into a storybook world.
The two young actresses met at a local performing arts group before securing their roles through Warrington’s Lauren Kelly Casting. Lauren Kelly, their agent, reflected on the joy of witnessing both girls achieve their dreams. She admitted to being overwhelmed when Harriet was cast and was moved to tears when Karis joined her.
“To have Hattie already down there filming was amazing,” Kelly said. “But for her friend to then book the younger version of the title role was just icing on the cake.”
With aspirations for future roles in the film industry, both girls are excited about what lies ahead. Karis expressed her ambition: “I would like to carry on with main character vibes.”
As Wicked prepares for its cinematic debut, these young stars exemplify how dreams can come true with hard work and dedication.
