Tragic Death of Woman After Night Out: Court Hears Shocking Account

A night out turned deadly when Raj Sidpara allegedly lost control and killed his partner, Tarnjeet Riaz, at his home in Leicester. This harrowing case unfolded in Leicester Crown Court, where jurors were presented with disturbing details of the events that transpired on May 6.

Accusations and Background

Sidpara, 50, stands accused of murdering Riaz, who also went by her maiden name Chagger. Although he denies the charge of murder, he admitted to manslaughter during a previous hearing on October 18. The court learned that Riaz did not reside with Sidpara but frequently visited his bungalow on Tarbat Road since their relationship began several months prior to her death.

Prosecutor Steven Bailey outlined the prosecution’s argument, stating that Sidpara lost his temper following a night out and violently attacked Riaz in his bedroom.

Bailey emphasized the severity of the incident by describing it as an act of brutal violence in a confined space, detailing how Sidpara allegedly kicked and stamped on Riaz until she succumbed to her injuries.

The jury was informed about the extensive injuries sustained by Riaz, which included multiple fractured ribs and significant bruising. According to Bailey, the combination of head and chest injuries ultimately led to her death. He suggested that many of these injuries were inflicted while she was unconscious or incapacitated.

The Final Moments

The prosecution further indicated that by the time Sidpara called for emergency assistance around lunchtime, Riaz had already passed away. During the 999 call, he was instructed on how to administer CPR, but it proved ineffective as Riaz was already cold and unresponsive.

Bailey pointed out inconsistencies in Sidpara’s account of events during the call, where he claimed Riaz fell due to intoxication. He argued that her injuries instead pointed to a sustained and intentional assault.

The court also heard that both individuals had been drinking heavily that evening before returning home. Surveillance footage revealed that Riaz appeared significantly more intoxicated than Sidpara, who managed to drive them back without issue.

Defense attorney Sarah Vine KC urged the jury to consider whether Sidpara’s alcohol dependency played a role in his actions during the tragic incident.
