Remembering Quincy Jones: A Musical Legend

Quincy Jones, an iconic musician and producer, has passed away at the age of 91. His publicist, Arnold Robinson, confirmed that he “passed away peacefully” on Sunday night at his home in Bel Air.

A Legacy of Greatness

In a heartfelt statement, his family shared,

“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing. And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.”

Jones is best known for producing Michael Jackson’s groundbreaking Thriller album. Over a remarkable career that spanned more than 75 years, he won an astounding 28 Grammy Awards and was recognized as one of the most influential jazz musicians of the 20th century by Time magazine.

Contributions to Music and Film

In addition to his work with Jackson, Jones produced and conducted the 1985 charity record, We Are The World. He was also responsible for composing the soundtracks for over 50 films and television programs, including classics such as Heat of the Night, The Color Purple, and The Italian Job.

Early in his career, Jones collaborated with the legendary Frank Sinatra. He notably re-arranged Sinatra’s classic song Fly Me To The Moon, transforming it from a waltz into a lively swing piece. During the production of The Wiz, he began a fruitful partnership with a young 19-year-old Michael Jackson, which lasted for decades. Together, they created iconic albums such as Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad.

This story will continue to develop as more details emerge about Quincy Jones' extraordinary life and contributions to music.

“It’s quite strange really playing shows without Maxi,” says keyboardist Sister Bliss.

As performances continue at Wetherspoon’s Grade II listed Opera House in February, fans remember the legacy left by musical pioneers like Quincy Jones.
