Tragic Incident in Edinburgh

A 74-year-old man has tragically died after being struck by a bus in Edinburgh. This incident occurred in the busy Cowgate area on Saturday at approximately 19:25. In light of the situation, police are urging the public to refrain from sharing distressing photos and videos of the event on social media.

Scene of the Accident

Following the incident, several roads were closed, and patrons in nearby pubs were asked to vacate the area. Disturbing footage and images circulated online, indicating that the man had suffered catastrophic injuries.

James Delaney, a reporter for BBC Scotland News who was present at the scene that night, noted that an extensive police cordon was established quickly. He reported:

“Inside were two forensic tents, probably about 100m apart. The Cowgate is usually jumping on a Saturday night, but the bars and pubs inside the cordon had been closed.”

Delaney observed approximately a dozen individuals in white forensic suits working at the site, along with several detectives.

Police Investigation and Community Appeal

To shield the view of the investigation from onlookers, officers erected sheets on South Bridge. Police Scotland has confirmed that an investigation is underway, and they are eager to speak with anyone who was in the vicinity at the time of the accident but has not yet been contacted.

Ch Insp Trisha Clark, local area commander, expressed concern over the circulation of images and videos online:

“We are aware of videos and images circulating on social media which are causing distress to the deceased’s family and those viewing them inadvertently. We would ask members of the public not to share them out of respect for his family.”

The police encourage people to report any distressing content to social media platforms to prevent further dissemination.
