A 10-year-old girl tragically lost her life following a dog attack inside her home in the Malton area on Friday at approximately 16:15 GMT.
The girl sustained severe injuries after being bitten by her dog. Despite the immediate response from medical professionals and a bystander who rushed to assist, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have indicated that the attack appears to be “out-of-character” for the dog, noting that the girl and her pet shared a close, loving relationship.
North Yorkshire Police are currently conducting detailed inquiries into the incident. A spokesperson stated:
“One of the lines of inquiry relates to the behaviour of the dog to help explain, as far as possible, why it attacked the girl.”
The police have confirmed that, under these circumstances, the dog will be destroyed.
A post-mortem examination for the girl is scheduled for later this week. The police have also mentioned that she will be formally identified in due course. This tragic event has deeply affected her family, who have been kept informed by law enforcement.
In addition to this incident, a motorcyclist involved in a separate accident expressed his difficulties, stating he cannot walk more than 200 yards without assistance from a stick.
