A family dog that fatally attacked a 10-year-old girl at her home will be destroyed, according to police reports. The incident took place in the Malton area around 16:15 GMT on Friday.
The young girl sustained serious injuries from the dog bite while in her home. Despite immediate assistance from medical professionals and a member of the public, she sadly died at the scene.
Police investigations have revealed that this attack is considered “out-of-character," highlighting the close, loving relationship between the girl and her dog. North Yorkshire Police stated they are conducting thorough inquiries into all aspects of the incident.
“One of the lines of inquiry relates to the behaviour of the dog to help explain, as far as possible, why it attacked the girl,” police mentioned.
Authorities have confirmed that due to the circumstances surrounding the incident, the dog will be destroyed. A post-mortem examination for the girl is scheduled to take place later on Sunday. The police also noted that she would be formally identified in due course.
In addition, a spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police updated that Victoria Taylor’s family has been informed about recent developments regarding the case.
