A woman was attacked at knifepoint in a disturbing incident that appears to be sexually motivated, but she bravely fought off her assailant using a flashlight, according to police reports. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident that took place in Drumahoe, County Londonderry.

The assault occurred around 10 PM BST on Friday when the woman, in her twenties, was walking through Drumahoe Park. A man approached her from behind, struck her on the side of the head, and forcefully pulled her into a wooded area before threatening her with a knife and pushing her to the ground.

During the confrontation, the woman managed to strike her attacker multiple times in the face with her flashlight. This decisive action allowed her to escape and seek help. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) quickly responded to the situation by searching for the assailant; however, he had already fled the scene before they arrived.

Detective Inspector Ross Olphert expressed concern for the victim’s well-being, stating that she has been left traumatized and extremely distressed by the experience. He assured that specialized officers are providing ongoing support as they conduct a thorough investigation into this alarming case. He emphasized that such attacks are a threat to everyone and affirmed that women should be able to live their lives without fear.

The PSNI is urging anyone who was present in the park during that evening to come forward with any information that could assist in their inquiries. Following this incident, a 40-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday in connection with it in the Violet Hill Avenue area.

In a separate report from Coalisland, another individual stated he was shot while sitting in his vehicle after being approached by two local men. Additionally, there were concerns raised about footage being accessed “without legitimate purpose” at 20 different police stations on 248 occasions.
