A music-loving bride made her wedding unforgettable by crowd-surfing to the very band that brought her and her husband together. Carla Hester, 41, envisioned a “non-traditional” celebration when planning her marriage to 34-year-old James. The couple, hailing from Lincolnshire, first connected through an online fan community dedicated to the Scottish band Biffy Clyro, bonding over their mutual passion for music and vinyl collection.

When Biffy Clyro announced their Celebration of Beginnings tour, which included three nights at the iconic Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow, Carla and James decided it would be the ideal venue for their wedding reception. Carla recalled, “It just started as this mad idea. All our friends would be there, we met because of Biffy, and we were already discussing marriage. So why not get married there with all our mates?”

In the lead-up to the wedding, instead of dealing with traditional pre-wedding stress, Carla camped outside the concert venue with friends to secure a prime spot at the front. When she finally succeeded, she proudly displayed a sign that read “I’m getting married tomorrow.” Remarkably, she even encountered some family members of the band during her wait.

Carla shared an amusing moment from her wedding journey: “We met Ben and James’ mum the night before our big day. After meeting James post-gig on Saturday in our wedding attire, he said ‘you’re the ones getting married; my mum has been texting me about you.’”

The couple tied the knot in Glasgow city center with friends and family who traveled from England to celebrate. Ahead of Biffy Clyro’s final concert of the tour, they gathered at Saint Lukes & the Winged Ox to connect with fellow fans. Carla reflected on this moment: “It was perfect and so relaxed. We usually meet at gigs; we’re like one big Biffy family.”

Word had spread among fans about Carla’s unique idea for crowd-surfing at her wedding reception, inspiring them to encourage her plan. As Biffy Clyro performed “There’s No Such Thing As A Jaggy Snake,” she was lifted off her feet by enthusiastic fans while still in her wedding dress.

The couple’s honeymoon plans also reflect their musical beginnings. Carla recalled how their first conversation stemmed from a post she made about missing out on a vinyl release due to work commitments, leading James to surprise her by purchasing it for her. They will continue their celebration in Milan while attending a concert by Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes.
