Ruben Amorim, the manager of Sporting Lisbon, has indicated that there will soon be clarity regarding speculation about his potential move to Manchester United following a match against Estrela on Friday. It is anticipated that he will continue in his role at Sporting until at least the next international break scheduled for November 11-19. The situation remains uncertain as it is unclear whether a deal has been finalized for Amorim to replace Erik ten Hag, who was dismissed from United on Monday.

Amorim, aged 39, mentioned that negotiations between the two clubs are complex. Sir Dave Brailsford, a member of the United board, recently told supporters that the agreement is complete as he arrived for Wednesday’s EFL Cup victory against Leicester, and this claim was supported by sources in Portugal. On the other hand, officials from Sporting maintain that no formal agreement has been reached and discussions are ongoing. Manchester United has chosen not to comment on the situation.

Amorim expressed that despite the ongoing talks and potential clauses in contracts, it’s not an easy process and emphasized that clarification would come after the game. He stated, “Tomorrow we will have a decision made.” Sporting’s upcoming matches include a crucial Champions League game against Manchester City followed by a league match against Braga on November 10 before the international break.

Since taking over in March 2020, Amorim has led Sporting to an impressive start this season, winning all nine league games and currently holding a three-point lead over their rivals Benfica. After their recent 3-1 win against Nacional in the Portuguese League Cup, Amorim acknowledged that persistent rumors about his future have affected team morale. He noted that his players seemed nervous about these developments as they face challenging matches ahead.

As he concluded a news conference, when asked about his thoughts on the Premier League, Amorim replied with enthusiasm. Due to financial regulations within Sporting, any agreement regarding his departure must be publicly announced to the Lisbon Stock Exchange.

Meanwhile, Ruud van Nistelrooy conducted his first press briefing as Manchester United’s interim manager. He indicated he would occupy this position temporarily and anticipated managing the team during their next Premier League match against Chelsea. Van Nistelrooy expressed his commitment to help the club navigate its current challenges while looking forward to future engagements in both domestic and European competitions following their match schedule.
