In Edinburgh, police vehicles and buses have faced attacks from individuals launching fireworks and projectiles. Responding to disturbances involving fireworks in the Niddrie area, authorities have advised the public to steer clear of the vicinity. This incident follows a similar event last year when approximately 100 youths clashed with riot police, throwing fireworks and petrol bombs at law enforcement in the same neighborhood, with other incidents also noted in Sighthill and Southhouse.

Lothian Buses announced the suspension of at least ten bus routes due to the rise in anti-social behavior. A representative stated that the company maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding such actions, emphasizing that ensuring the safety of both employees and passengers is their foremost concern.

To manage the situation, road closures have been implemented at key junctions, including Niddrie Mains Road and Duddingston Park South, as well as Niddrie Mains Road and Greendykes Road. Police are actively working to stabilize the environment with additional support.

This unrest occurred just hours before a new regulation prohibiting the use of fireworks around Bonfire Night in designated areas, including Niddrie, took effect. The Firework Control Zone will be enforced from November 1 to November 10, making it illegal for individuals to set off private fireworks during this time.

In 2022, following significant disturbances in Dundee, the Scottish government empowered local councils to establish ‘firework control zones’ (FCZs). The City of Edinburgh Council was the first in Scotland to approve such measures in August. As a result, private firework displays are now forbidden unless they are part of an authorized public event. However, the council’s culture and communities committee did not approve a zone encompassing the entire city.

Information regarding the new fireworks legislation and associated penalties is being distributed in Bradford. Additionally, law enforcement has discovered powerful fireworks at a residence in Wakefield that were being promoted on social media platforms. This led to a raid on a house following reports of fireworks being sold online and from a vehicle.
