Australian authorities have announced the recovery of approximately 40,000 limited-edition coins inspired by the popular children’s show Bluey. In July, it was reported that a total of 63,000 coins, manufactured by the Australian Mint, had been stolen from a warehouse located in Western Sydney, just two months prior to their scheduled release into circulation.

On Tuesday, police seized 40,061 coins during a raid on a property roughly 10 kilometers (about 6 miles) from the original storage site. Earlier that same day, 27-year-old Christina Vale was arrested and charged with offenses including breaking and entering and disposing of stolen goods. Her arrest marks the third related to this incident.

Each coin has a face value of A$1 (approximately $0.65 or 50 pence) and was reportedly being sold online for ten times their original worth following the theft. The New South Wales Police launched a dedicated investigation known as Strike Force Bandit, named after Bluey’s father, shortly after the coins went missing.

In August, two individuals were apprehended: Steven Nielsen, aged 44 and an employee at the warehouse where the coins were stored, alongside his alleged accomplice Nassar Kanj, also 44. Authorities are asserting that Ms. Vale acted as the getaway driver for Nielsen and Kanj during the theft.

These gold-colored coins are referred to as Bluey dollarbucks in reference to how money is depicted in the animated series. Each coin showcases various characters from the show. Bluey follows the adventures of the Heeler family, composed of anthropomorphic dogs, and is produced by Ludo Studio in collaboration with BBC Studios and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

The series has achieved remarkable global popularity and is now available in over 60 countries, including major markets like the UK, US, and China. Last year alone, Bluey was streamed for over 20 billion minutes on Disney+ in the United States, placing it among the top ten streaming programs by minutes viewed in that country.
