Steve Bannon, a former advisor to Donald Trump, has been released from prison after serving four months. The 70-year-old was freed from a correctional facility in Danbury, Connecticut, on Tuesday, as confirmed by Bureau of Prisons spokesman Benjamin O’Cone to the BBC. Bannon, known for his role in Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and as a conservative podcast host, was found guilty of two counts of contempt of Congress in 2022. This conviction stemmed from his refusal to comply with a congressional subpoena concerning the investigation into the January 6 Capitol riot.

Following his release, Bannon expressed that his time in federal prison had not weakened him but rather strengthened his resolve. In an episode of his podcast, he stated that he felt more energized and focused than ever before. He is scheduled to hold a press conference in New York City later on Tuesday.

Before his incarceration, Bannon made it clear that he would continue to support Trump and his campaign even while imprisoned. He stated that his commitment to politics and Trump’s “Make America Great Again” movement would remain unchanged regardless of his circumstances. Bannon has maintained a strong loyalty to Trump and has consistently criticized Democratic leaders, despite experiencing a rift with Trump during the latter’s presidency.

Prior to going to jail, Bannon described himself as a “political prisoner,” blaming figures like Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden for his situation. He has also made unfounded claims about the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election, alleging it was stolen from Trump. In a podcast episode earlier this year, he suggested that Democrats would go to great lengths to manipulate future elections.

In addition to his contempt charges, Bannon is facing further legal challenges related to allegations of money laundering, fraud, and conspiracy in a separate case in New York from 2022. These charges are linked to accusations that he defrauded donors who contributed to an initiative promising to construct part of the US-Mexico border wall. Bannon has pleaded not guilty to these charges.

As he navigates these legal issues and prepares for public appearances, Bannon remains a notable figure within conservative circles, continuing to advocate for Trump’s agenda and criticize Democratic leadership.
