Adidas has concluded its legal dispute with Kanye West regarding antisemitic remarks he made in 2022, which jeopardized their collaborative “Yeezy” line. At that time, Adidas halted the collection and began liquidating Yeezy inventory at reduced prices. Recently, the company announced it has finalized a settlement with West, effectively putting an end to all ongoing litigation between them.

During a conference call, Adidas CEO Bjorn Gulden stated that there are no remaining issues and affirmed that no financial exchanges are occurring between the two parties. He acknowledged previous tensions but indicated that both sides agreed to cease hostilities. Gulden remarked that the controversy surrounding West “is now behind us.” He explained that such conflicts often involve legal consultations, negotiations, and settlements, leading to this resolution. The situation is now settled, with no debts or obligations lingering.

The termination of this partnership has left Adidas with Yeezy inventory valued at approximately €1.2 billion (£840 million). The company plans to sell the remaining products in batches while donating proceeds to various NGOs, including its newly established anti-discrimination foundation. The sale of the final Yeezy items is expected to conclude by the end of 2024.

This shift in strategy represents a significant departure from Adidas’s stance in 2022 when it condemned antisemitism and hate speech. The company characterized West’s comments as unacceptable and harmful, violating its core values of diversity and inclusion.

Adidas began its collaboration with West in 2014, resulting in a highly successful line of sportswear. Despite the controversies, demand for Yeezy products persisted, with various styles maintaining strong resale value, often fetching hundreds or even thousands of pounds.

West faced significant backlash for his antisemitic statements made on social media platforms like Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) in October 2022. In subsequent months, he reiterated these views during interviews and podcasts. Notably, in December 2022, he appeared on Alex Jones' show InfoWars, where he controversially expressed admiration for Adolf Hitler.

The rapper has been open about his struggles with bipolar disorder over the years and has shared his experiences related to mental health challenges. Meanwhile, Marie Curie is set to curate luxury donated items for sale in a new ‘slow fashion’ boutique as part of their ongoing initiatives. Developers are also planning to replace two existing shops on-site to facilitate this new venture.
