Generative AI and the Creative Industry

The recent evolution of generative artificial intelligence is profoundly influencing the creative industry landscape. A significant example is the panel “RE)Immagini - L’umano, l’AI e la co-creazione”, organized by the ANSA AI Observatory in collaboration with ANICA and AIRF, which took place in Rome. This meeting brought together industry experts to discuss the implications of these new technologies.

Opportunities and Challenges in the Audiovisual Sector

Alessandro Usai, president of ANICA, opened the proceedings by expressing the need to better understand the impact of AI on daily life. He highlighted how there is growing concern among professionals in the sector, highlighting the importance of an open dialogue on the opportunities and challenges that these technologies present. Luigi Contu, director of ANSA, shared his concern about a radical change affecting journalism. He said that, despite the potential offered by AI, there are aspects of human work that a machine will never be able to replicate to the fullest. The discussion focused on tools such as Dall-e, Midjourney and GPT-4, which are becoming increasingly integrated into the creative process. Speakers included well-known names in the Italian creative scene. Gabriele Micalizzi, an internationally renowned photographer and photojournalist, shared his experience on significant historical events. Marianna Santoni, an expert in Photoshop and digital imaging, shared insights on the future of photography in a context dominated by technology. Roberto Navigli, a professor at Sapienza University in Rome, illustrated how artificial intelligence is reshaping the relationship between human language and machines.

Towards a Shared Future

The meeting also saw the participation of representative figures such as Gennaro Coppola of One More Pictures and Elisabetta Rocca of EDI Effetti Digitali Italiani. These professionals highlighted how creativity can coexist with technological innovation. Hosted in the halls of the Association of Cinematographic and Audiovisual Industries in Rome, the panel represents only one stage of the road show “La Fabbrica della Realtà”, which will continue in Modena and Trento. The meeting was broadcast live on ANSA.it and was hosted by Alessio Jacona and Massimo Sebastiani. The growing interest in generative AI suggests a future where human creativity and technology will work ever more closely together. The challenge will be to find a balance between innovation and authenticity in the creative process.
