Tragic fire in a retirement home in Aragon
A devastating fire has hit a retirement home in Jardines de Villafranca, located in Villafranca del Ebro, in the province of Zaragoza. The incident has caused the death of ten people and left at least one injured in critical condition, as confirmed by the Civil Guard.
Fire Brigade Intervention
The fire alert was raised at 5 a.m. In response, several firefighter teams rushed to the scene, equipped with a 30-meter ladder truck, managing to put out the flames in the structure that housed 82 elderly people. According to information provided by the prefecture of Aragon, the victims were immediately identified, while one guest was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The causes of the fire remain unknown at this time. In addition to the firefighters, ambulances and other emergency services intervened at the scene of the accident. Civil Protection played a key role in the evacuation of the elderly survivors.
The residents of the residence were transferred to the Royo Villanova, Miguel Servet and Clinico Universitario hospitals in the region to receive the necessary care.

Following the tragic event, the Aragonese government’s Interior Minister, Roberto Bermudez de Castro, together with the prefect of the region and the head of the Aragonese Institute for the Management of Social Services (Aass), Angel Val, went to the site to monitor the situation and provide support to the families of the guests involved.
