A disturbing story has shaken the community of Rimini, where two young men have been accused of gang rape of a 16-year-old girl. The episode, which occurred between August 5 and 6, emerged when the minor contacted 113 to ask for help, after having experienced a nightmare.
According to the investigation, the girl had arranged a meeting via social media with the two suspects. However, once in the car, she felt threatened and asked to go home. The two young men not only ignored her, but also attacked her and subsequently abandoned her on the street during the night. Authorities were alerted when the minor reported feeling ill after spending time with the two boys. An investigation was immediately launched, leading to the crime being considered as sexual assault aggravated by the use of drugs.
Three months after the incident, the Carabinieri of the Rimini provincial command executed two precautionary measures against the suspects: a newly eighteen-year-old and a 17-year-old resident of Fano. The investigations were coordinated by the deputy prosecutor for minors, Caterina Sallusti, together with the deputy prosecutor of Rimini, Davide Ercolani. The custody order for the adult was signed by the preliminary investigations judge Raffaella Ceccarelli. Both boys will be questioned in the coming days by their defense lawyers.
Following the victim’s hospital visit, tests confirmed the extent of her injuries. She was released with a 30-day prognosis, but her inability to provide details about her attackers initially hampered the investigation. Thanks to the acquisition of the recordings of the cameras in the area of the abandonment and the DNA samples taken from the victim, the carabinieri were able to trace the alleged attackers. The DNA test revealed an almost total compatibility between the genetic profiles of the boys and those collected during the investigation.
This case raises questions about child safety and protection in the digital environment.
