Israel steps up airstrikes Lebanon in grave danger
In southern Lebanon, in Tyre, Israeli warplanes struck two buildings near the Imam Hussein compound, Lebanese daily L’Orient Le Jour reported.
The situation in the Gaza Strip continues to raise international concern. A report by the UN Special Committee accused the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) of deliberately causing death, starvation and serious injury among the Palestinian population. According to the document, the methods used by the IDF amount to genocide, highlighting the massive civilian casualties and the dire conditions imposed on Palestinians.
The US State Department has called the allegations “unfounded” as the report is set to be presented to the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The document highlights how Israel’s bombing campaign has devastated essential services, triggering a health catastrophe with potentially long-lasting effects. In February alone, Israeli forces reportedly used more than 25,000 tons of explosives, an amount comparable to two nuclear bombs.
Meanwhile, Israel is awaiting a response from Lebanon regarding a ceasefire proposal put forward by the United States. Sources indicate that this plan is also supported by Paris and is aimed at ensuring President-elect Donald Trump a foreign policy success before his inauguration. An Israeli official said there is an agreement to facilitate an understanding with Lebanon, although there are complicated conditions to be addressed. In a conversation with his French counterpart, the Israeli Foreign Minister reported progress in negotiations, but stressed the importance of its implementation. However, consultations among Lebanese leaders have highlighted stringent demands, such as a total ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory.
In such a tense context, Gaya Kalderon, a young woman with family members still in Gaza, expressed her anguish during a press briefing in Rome. She stressed the importance of reaching an agreement to bring her loved ones home.
“We miss him so much,” Kalderon said, highlighting the urgent need for concrete action by American and Italian authorities. Other former hostages shared harrowing experiences of their captivity. Sharon Lifschitz called on governments to act quickly to free those still held by Hamas.
The situation in the region remains extremely complex and fragile. With diplomatic efforts ongoing and tensions rising, it is crucial to monitor how events unfold in the coming months. The call to the international community is strong: act quickly to prevent further suffering and ensure a lasting solution to the conflict.
