Israel Bombs Beirut: Tensions With Hezbollah Rise Dramatically
Israeli Airstrikes on Beirut Suburbs Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have flared again, with Israeli forces launching airstrikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut.
Recently, Ron Dermer, the minister of strategic affairs in the Netanyahu government, embarked on a tour of the United States, which began at Mar-a-Lago. During this meeting with Donald Trump and Jared Kushner, Dermer communicated Israel’s intention to accelerate negotiations for a ceasefire agreement in Lebanon. This initiative was reported by the Washington Post, which cited Israeli sources. According to information provided by Israeli officials, Israel’s main goal would be to secure a quick diplomatic victory for the president-elect. One official said there was an understanding on how Israel could offer concessions to Trump, anticipating that there would be a deal on Lebanon by January.
Meanwhile, the situation in Lebanon is becoming increasingly tense. Israeli forces have carried out at least one airstrike in the southern suburbs of Beirut, following an immediate evacuation order for residents in the area. According to AFP, there have been at least six waves of airstrikes since Tuesday, mainly targeting Hezbollah installations. An Israeli army spokesman warned the local population:
“You are close to Hezbollah installations and facilities; the IDF will conduct operations in the near future.” The message is clear: residents of nearby areas, such as Chouaifat al-Omrousiya and al-Ghobeiry, have been urged to evacuate “immediately” to ensure their safety.
Dermer’s meeting with U.S. leaders marks a crucial moment in U.S.-Israeli relations and regional conflict management. The possibility of a ceasefire agreement in Lebanon could not only resolve immediate tensions, but could also influence future political dynamics in the region. Staying abreast of these developments will be critical to understanding the broader implications of actions taken by both Israel and the United States in the current geopolitical context.
