Bad weather is coming to all of Italy
Weather Changes Coming: Goodbye to Mild Temperatures The mild temperatures that have characterized the last few weeks are about to vanish.
A polar air mass coming from Sweden is preparing to bring a significant change in the climate of several Italian regions. According to Andrea Garbinato, editor in chief of iLMeteo.it, this icy nucleus will head along the Adriatic coast until reaching Puglia between Thursday and Friday, marking the beginning of a winter parenthesis.
During its rapid transit, which will affect Romagna up to the Strait of Otranto, the polar core could generate scattered snowfall. In particular, the Romagna Apennines and surrounding areas, such as Marche and Abruzzo, are expected to be hit by significant snow accumulations.
The ASES effect (Adriatic Sea Effect Snow) will enrich the cold air mass with humidity as it slides over the Adriatic Sea, potentially bringing up to 30 cm of fresh snow above 1000 meters in the Abruzzo Apennines. On Friday, November 15, the last effects of the Swedish air mass will be felt in Puglia, Basilicata and Calabria. Snowfall in the South is expected at higher altitudes, around 1200-1500 meters, accompanied by strong winds that will intensify the feeling of cold through the wind-chill effect.
After the passage of the polar core, the weekend will be generally sunny with clear skies. However, night temperatures will drop drastically in the North and in some areas of the Center. Only between Eastern Liguria and Upper Tuscany are light rains expected due to maritime currents. The following week could bring new Atlantic disturbances arriving from Northern Europe. Although the exact trajectory of these weather systems is still uncertain, an increase in scattered precipitation is expected across the country and a slight increase in minimum temperatures.
In short, Italy is about to face a taste of winter that will involve sub-zero temperatures in the Center-North until Sunday. With clear skies forecast for the weekend and potential rain early next week, Italians will have to prepare for colder weather but also for periods of good weather. The winter season is finally upon us and the country is preparing to face it with all its climate challenges.
