Antonello Venditti receives the Capitoline Wolf: a tribute to his Rome
In an emotional event at the Campidoglio, Antonello Venditti received the Capitoline Wolf, symbol of the city of Rome, from the hands of Mayor Roberto Gualtieri. With a heart full of joy, the Roman singer-songwriter gave the mayor his iconic white hat, a gesture that represents the deep bond between the artist and his city.
“The hat is the symbol of my life. Wherever I place it, it is my home,” Venditti said, underlining the importance of Rome in his existence.
An unconditional love for Rome
During the ceremony, Venditti expressed his love for Rome in all its facets. He said that even the city’s flaws are an integral part of Roman life. In a heartfelt appeal to the citizens, he invited Romans to respect their city more: “We want to make Rome great again,” he said, paraphrasing a well-known slogan.
The singer-songwriter acknowledged that loving Rome can be complicated. “Rome is easy to love and hate,” he explained, highlighting the strong emotional attachment Romans have to their homeland.
The importance of art and music
Mayor Gualtieri praised Venditti as a poet capable of expressing feelings and passions through his music. “His art represents generations of Romans,” he said, noting how the artist’s melodies and lyrics are an integral part of Roman culture.
The president of the Capitoline Assembly, Svetlana Celli, described Venditti as a “singer-songwriter who took Rome around the world.” His music not only celebrates the city but also helps create a sense of collective identity among its inhabitants.
Concluding the event, Venditti revealed which song he had chosen to express this special moment: “Ho fatto un sogno”, a dedication to those who love Rome but are not Roman.
“Music must have dignity in our Constitution,” he added, hoping for greater valorization of musical art.
Looking to the future, Venditti does not plan to perform at the Circus Maximus but says he is ready to return to Caracalla. His vision for music is clear: it must be accessible to everyone and not just those who can afford it.
With a career that continues to evolve and a passion that remains intact, Antonello Venditti confirms himself as an essential voice for Rome and for its future generations.
