Bad Weather Emergency in Malaga: Torrential Rain and Floods
The situation in Malaga, southern Spain, is rapidly worsening due to heavy rains that have hit the city. The floods have brought the center of Malaga to its knees and have also affected the Hospital Clinico. The severity of the events has prompted local authorities to evacuate more than 3,000 people from areas near the Guadalhorce River.
Evacuations and Extensive Damage
Reports of flooding are alarming, with over 300 incidents reported involving homes, shops and garages. According to the Andalusian presidential councillor, Antonio Sanz, the clearing operations have been carried out in the Campanillas neighbourhood to ensure the safety of residents.
The situation is critical and requires immediate intervention to protect human life and reduce material damage.
In response to the emergency, schools, universities and public parks have been closed, while sports activities have been suspended. Road traffic has been restricted since 6:00 PM this afternoon to facilitate rescue and monitoring operations.
Weather Alert and Future Outlook
The meteorological agency Aemet has issued a red alert that will remain in force at least until dawn tomorrow for Malaga, Granada, the north of Castellón and the south of Tarragona. In addition, an orange alert will also extend to the coast of Valencia starting tonight. Many municipalities are already dealing with the effects of Dana, a meteorological phenomenon that hit the region two weeks ago.
The local community is mobilizing resources to address this emergency. However, the outlook for the coming days remains uncertain, with further rains expected.
With rising water levels and the risks associated with landslides and mudslides, the situation requires constant attention from local authorities and the population. It will be essential to follow official updates to ensure everyone’s safety.
