Artificial Intelligence in Italy: Opportunities and Challenges

Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption in Italy presents a mixed picture. While interest in the potential of this technology is growing, actual use in the workplace remains limited, mainly due to a lack of specific skills. A recent survey conducted by Jabra, which examined fourteen countries, including Italy, highlights these dynamics.

Perceptions and realities at work

Only 14% of Italian professionals believe that AI can actually improve the quality of work. However, an impressive 93% of those interviewed are aware of the potential offered by the technology. Among the opinions expressed, 68% of participants consider that AI can be a valid tool for saving time, thus allowing them to dedicate themselves to training and interpersonal relationships. However, there are also significant concerns. Some 49% of respondents feel that the term “artificial intelligence” is being used too broadly and lacking in substance. Additionally, 34% fear that the technology could be used to monitor job performance, while 27% express fears about losing their jobs due to automation.

The global point of view

Internationally, Jabra surveyed business decision makers in six countries in a further survey. The results reveal that 85% of managers are enthusiastic about AI; however, a full 82% admit they do not know how to effectively use it to improve operational efficiency. This lack of knowledge translates into poor implementation of the technology in companies. To address these challenges, Jabra emphasizes the need to invest in training and develop clear strategies for AI integration.

“To avoid what we call ‘AI-washing,’ companies need to carefully evaluate the productivity gains that AI can offer and actively engage their employees in this journey,” says Riccardo Brenna, Head of Research and Marketing Insights at Jabra.

Towards a sustainable future

Looking to the future, it is crucial that Italian companies embrace a culture of continuous learning and develop specific skills in the field of artificial intelligence. Only in this way will it be possible to overcome current mistrust and fully exploit the opportunities offered by this revolutionary technology in the world of work.
