Murder of Giulia Tramontano: Prosecutor’s Office requests life sentence for Impagnatiello

The murder of Giulia Tramontano, which occurred on May 27, 2023 in Senago, has deeply shocked public opinion. The Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested a life sentence for Alessandro Impagnatiello, accused of killing his girlfriend with 37 stab wounds during the seventh month of pregnancy. The charges against him include aggravated voluntary homicide, non-consensual termination of pregnancy and concealment of a corpse.

A premeditated plan

During her closing speech, prosecutor Alessia Menegazzo described the murder as the culmination of a murderous plan conceived for months. She outlined a “deadly plan” aimed at eliminating Giulia and the child, with initial attempts that included poisoning. Menegazzo emphasized that Impagnatiello had been calculating, changing strategy only when the right opportunity presented itself.

The prosecutor said that “May 27 was just a dramatic epilogue” and that his behavior suggests a personality characterized by “deadly narcissism.” In the courtroom, the victim’s family members attended the closing speech, including the mother Loredana Femiano, who expressed her grief for the loss.

Attempts at misdirection and manipulation

Menegazzo highlighted how Impagnatiello attempted to mislead the investigation by filing a missing persons report for Giulia, suggesting that she was in a fragile mental state. He also insinuated that the young woman had attempted suicide in the past. According to the prosecutor, this information was part of a broader strategy to divert suspicion from himself. Alessandro Impagnatiello, 31, is currently in court while awaiting the conclusion of the trial. The final discussion by the Prosecutor’s Office and the lawyers of the civil parties is scheduled for today.

An uncertain but necessary future to face

The Court of Assizes of Milan could issue a ruling as early as today. This case raises questions about the issue of domestic violence and the importance of prevention. The words of Giulia’s family on Instagram remain a powerful warning:

“Your memory is our strength,” wrote Chiara Tramontano, the victim’s sister. This tragic event must not be forgotten; it must serve as a starting point for broader reflections on how to address and combat violence against women in our society.
