A year of reflections after the tragedy
Gino Cecchettin shared his experience in an interview with “Che tempo che fa” on La Nove, revealing how a year after the murder of his daughter Giulia, he managed to transform pain into an inner resource. Despite adversity, he found the strength not to give in to feelings of hatred or anger. This journey, he explained, was fundamental to creating value and positivity in his life.
The importance of choosing the positive
Cecchettin noted that over the past year he has noticed a sad atmosphere of negativity around him. However, he has decided to focus on the positives.
“I take a photo of Giulia and look at it; in this way, I leave no room for the negative,” he said.
According to him, each individual contributes to their own emotional environment, similar to how humans produce oxygen or carbon dioxide. Oxygen represents positive feelings while carbon dioxide symbolizes the weight of negativity.
Cecchettin says that responding to negative experiences is key: “If we respond positively, we bring love and value into our relationships,” he said. Conversely, allowing ourselves to be overwhelmed by negative feelings can damage relationships with loved ones.
Parenting and resilience
Giulia’s dad also discussed his approach to parenting, emphasizing the importance of facing challenges. He noted that parents often try to remove obstacles from their children’s lives, but this may not be beneficial:
“A little bit of turbulence is necessary because it makes you stronger,” he explained.
For Cecchettin, the key is to find a balance between authority and freedom. He teaches kids to deal with challenges from a young age to develop valuable skills. He emphasized that facing defeats and learning from them is essential to growth.
Saving for the future
Gino Cecchettin’s message is clear: life is a journey full of challenges, but the choice of how to react to these challenges determines our emotional and relational well-being. In a social context often permeated by negativity, his testimony offers a precious starting point to reflect on how we can all contribute to creating a more positive environment for ourselves and for others.
