The Trevi Attic: A New Space Dedicated to Memory

The Council of Rome has recently approved the proposal to dedicate the historic Mansarda di Trevi to an important cultural initiative. This property, once the residence of the President of the Republic Sandro Pertini and his wife Carla Voltolina, will be transformed into a place of memory dedicated to the history of the Italian Republic. The decision was communicated by Councilor Antonella Melito, representative of the Democratic Party, who underlined the importance of this project.

A Project for Historical Memory

The building will be managed by the Ente Stati Generali del Patrimonio Italiano, registered in the Single Register of the Third Sector. This body will take care not only of the renovation of the building, but also of the setting up of various thematic areas that will pay homage to the presidents of the Republic.

“We want to create a space that honors the figure of Sandro Pertini and his commitment to justice and freedom,” Melito explained. Initiatives will include:

  • A library dedicated to publications on Italian presidents.
  • A graduation hall named after Sandro Pertini, equipped to welcome teachers and students.
  • A space named after Carla Voltolina for conferences, art exhibitions and book presentations. This proposal was also enthusiastically welcomed by Valdo Spini, president of the Fondazione Circolo Fratelli Rosselli. Spini expressed his desire to transform the Mansarda into a place accessible to students, equipped with the technologies necessary to explore Pertini’s life and legacy.

Towards a Future of Education and Remembrance

The transformation of the Mansarda di Trevi into a cultural center marks a significant step towards the valorization of Italian historical memory. With the unanimous approval of the motion in 2022, the project represents a collective commitment to preserve and promote the values that have guided the leaders of our country. With the opening scheduled for the next phases, this space is expected to become a key destination for students and citizens who wish to delve deeper into the history of the Italian Republic. The Mansarda will not only be a physical place, but a living symbol of the cultural heritage and democratic values that continue to inspire future generations.
