Election Results: A Bumpy Start

The American electoral marathon has entered its prime time, with the first results starting to outline the political landscape. In Georgia, Donald Trump is currently ahead with 55% of the vote, while in North Carolina the situation appears more uncertain, with Kamala Harris leading but with a limited number of ballots counted. With polls closing in the first 26 states, attention is now on the swing states, which are crucial to the final outcome. Pennsylvania remains the most important battleground, with the two candidates battling it out until the last vote.

Results from Various States

The first projections of the main American networks already indicate some significant victories. Kentucky, expected to be a victory for Trump, confirmed expectations with its eight electors, while Harris wins Vermont with three electors. Trump also triumphed in Indiana (11 electors) and West Virginia (four electors), consolidating his position. On the other hand, Harris scored victories in Maryland (10 electors), Connecticut (seven), and other states such as Illinois (19), New Jersey (14), and Massachusetts (11). Trump also scored gains in Mississippi (six), Alabama (nine), Oklahoma (seven) and Florida, where he obtained 30 electoral votes, further strengthening his campaign.

Implications for Congress

The count also revealed news about the renewal of Congress. Bernie Sanders was re-elected to the Senate for his fourth term, retaining the representation of Vermont. In addition, Lisa Blunt Rochester won the race for the Senate in Delaware, thus becoming the first African-American woman in the Upper House of the United States. Looking ahead, eyes remain on the swing states that could decide the outcome of this electoral contest. With 93 electoral votes up for grabs and the threshold of 270 needed to access the White House, the climate remains tense and the wait for the results continues to grow.
