Weather Changes Coming: Cold and Snow for Indian Summer
After ten days of stable weather, Italy is preparing for a significant change this weekend. Lorenzo Tedici, meteorologist for the portal www.iLMeteo.it, predicts that the Indian Summer, traditionally associated with mild temperatures, will bring cold and the possibility of snow this year.
Forecasts for the Center-North and the South
Over the next three days, the weather will remain stable in the Center-North, but smog levels are set to increase, especially in the Po Valley. On the contrary, the South will benefit from still high sea temperatures, favoring the formation of intense thunderstorms on the Tyrrhenian Sea and locally in Sicily and the eastern part of Sardinia.
Temperatures will continue to be mild until Saturday, with peaks of 24°C expected in Sardinia and Sicily and 22°C in Campania, Puglia, Calabria and Lazio. Rome and Latina will also see fluctuations between 21°C and 22°C, thus prolonging the so-called ‘November’ in the Center-South. The Alpine areas will not be an exception, with an anomalous zero level that will settle around 3500 meters, similar to summer values.
The arrival of Winter
A radical change is expected from Sunday. The extension of high pressure towards the British Isles could favor the arrival of a continental Arctic core that will descend first towards the Balkans and then towards Italy. If the forecasts come true, next week could turn out to be “almost wintery”, with temperatures expected to be 6-7°C below the seasonal average. Snowflakes at hilly altitudes are not excluded.
Day by Day Forecast Details
- Wednesday 6: Partly cloudy skies in the North; good weather in the Center; cloudy in Sicily in the South with scattered showers.
- Thursday 7: Partly cloudy skies in the North; scattered clouds in the Center; clouds in the South in Sicily with showers.
- Friday 8: In the North partly cloudy skies; in the Centre scattered clouds with occasional rain in Sardinia; in the South scattered clouds with showers especially in Sicily.
The trend shows persistent rains in Sicily followed by a cold outbreak accompanied by a cyclone over Sardinia.
A Future Perspective
With winter upon us, Italians will need to prepare for more severe weather conditions. This change will not only affect daily activities but will also have repercussions on agriculture and the environment. It will be interesting to see how these climate dynamics evolve in the coming weeks.
