The Royal Visit to Paiporta

Following the anger and protests that erupted yesterday in Paiporta, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, along with Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and the governor of Valencia, Carlos Mazon, had to interrupt their visit to the areas most affected by the floods in Spain. To deal with the situation, the monarch modified his official agenda by chairing a meeting at the command center of the Army’s Military Unit (UME) in Torrejon de Ardoz, near Madrid.

The population’s reactions

Despite the mud and objects thrown at the official group, Felipe VI listened to the cries for help from the affected population in Paiporta:

“Felipe, don’t abandon us.” The king has guaranteed that “the State in its entirety is and will be present” in the municipalities devastated by the floods to deal with the catastrophe.

The monarchs' initiative

The monarchs' visit to Paiporta and Chiva, considered the ground zero of the areas affected by Dana, was undertaken on their own initiative. This gesture was intended to express solidarity with the affected families, although it had been discouraged for security reasons. Government sources cited by several Iberian media, including El Pais, confirmed this decision. In such a difficult moment, the commitment of the royal family has proven fundamental in bringing a message of unity and support to the community afflicted by this natural tragedy.
