According to information that has emerged, the accident occurred during modernization work on the Nigiu viaduct. A worker from a subcontractor, engaged in assembling scaffolding under the viaduct deck, fell into the void. Regarding the tragedy, the Autostrada dei Fiori has released an official statement:
“First of all, we express our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family.” All activities on the construction site were immediately suspended and emergency services were contacted. The competent authorities were promptly informed of the incident. Unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done to save the worker, not even with the intervention of the air rescue.
The motorway section between Altare and Savona was closed to traffic at 10:20 to allow for the recovery of the body. The reopening of the section will only be possible after the authorities' investigations are completed. This sad event highlights the importance of safety in the workplace and the need for constant vigilance during construction activities.
