Floods in Aldaia: Critical Situation But No Victims Found
After an inspection of 50 vehicles in the parking lot of the Bonaire shopping center, located in Aldaia, near Valencia, no victims were found. This was confirmed by Ricardo Gutierrez, spokesman for the National Police, during a meeting with journalists.
Emergency Operations
Emergency teams, including firefighters and soldiers from the Army Emergency Unit (UME), have been working since Friday to clear a 2,000 square meter underground area. 4 drones, kayaks and divers were used for the operation.
The parking lot has 1,800 underground spaces and 5,700 total spaces, but there were fears that it could have become a huge cemetery of water and mud after the heavy floods. Fortunately, inspections have confirmed that there have been no dramatic cases, as stated by the mayor of Aldaia, Guillermo Luna.
Institutional Reactions
The situation has caused great concern, especially after the protests in Paiporta. These events prompted King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia to interrupt an official visit to meet with communities affected by the flood in Spain.
“Felipe, do not abandon us” was one of the sentiments expressed by the population during the monarch’s visit.
Felipe VI assured that “the State in its entirety is and will be present” in the areas devastated by the flood to address the emergency.
The visit of the monarchs to Paiporta and Chiva was decided by the royal family to show solidarity with the affected families, despite having been advised against for security reasons, as indicated by government sources.
Conclusion
The situation in Aldaia remains critical, but emergency operations are proceeding without reports of casualties among citizens. The authorities' response was rapid and aimed at ensuring the safety of those affected by this dramatic flood.
