Brawl and Shootout in San Sebastiano al Vesuvio
It does not appear that the 17-year-old arrested is the only person responsible for the brawl that led to the tragic shooting in which Santo Romano, a 19-year-old boy, lost his life. Santo died from his injuries after being hit in the chest by a bullet while he was with a group of friends in San Sebastiano al Vesuvio, in the province of Naples.
Confession of the Minor
The boy, currently under arrest, made substantial admissions during questioning by the judge of the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office. He was picked up by the Carabinieri near his home in the Barra neighborhood. Investigators are now busy identifying the other young people involved in the brawl, which arose from an argument over a “dirty” shoe.
“The minicar used to get away was crucial in framing him.”
The 17-year-old was easily identified thanks to the minicar he used to escape from Piazza Raffaele Capasso after the shooting. Another young man, 19 years old, a friend of Santo Romano, was injured in the accident. The car had already been noticed by various witnesses before and after the shooting.
Background and Ongoing Investigations
The minicar had been checked by the Carabinieri only the day before, with the 17-year-old on board. The latter is known to the police for drug-related precedents and a recent arrest in the juvenile prison of Nisida. During questioning, the boy initially tried to clear himself, but then admitted to having shot.
Investigators are trying to find out who was with him that night. To this end, they are also examining the photos on the minor’s social profiles. Some shots could reveal crucial information, since it is suspected that some posts praise the use of weapons.
Today there is a meeting of the Committee for Public Order and Safety called by the prefect Michele Di Bari right in San Sebastiano al Vesuvio. In the meantime, friends and relatives of Santo Romano are participating in a prayer vigil led by don Ciro Cozzolino, representative of the association Libera.
