Malfunctions of the Electronic Prescription Platform

Problems persist related to the platform used for electronic prescriptions, creating significant discomfort for citizens and pharmacies. Many users who receive an electronic prescription from their doctor encounter additional difficulties due to system malfunctions, finding themselves in the position of not being able to collect the prescribed drugs.

Concerns about Total Dematerialization

The problems related to IT systems have raised great concern regarding the total dematerialization of pharmaceutical prescriptions. This has prompted family doctors to request a deadline extension for the complete digitalization of documents, as established by the financial law. Article 54 of the 2025 Budget Bill, presented by the Government to the Chamber, provides for the total dematerialization of pharmaceutical prescriptions, with the Regions responsible for implementation. However, the difficulties that have emerged in recent weeks raise doubts about the concrete possibility of implementing this rule.

“The difficulties that have arisen in recent weeks raise many doubts about the concrete possibility of implementing the law.” This concern is also shared by Federfarma, the organization that represents over 17,000 pharmacies in Italy. In response to the current situation, Federfarma Nazionale has sent a circular to its members to inform them of the problems encountered.

The Regions Most Affected

The regions that are facing the greatest difficulties are those with a “regional intermediate station” of the national platform. According to Gianni Petrossillo, vice president of Federfarma and president of Sunifarm, these include Veneto, Emilia Romagna, Lombardy and Puglia. The problems are not limited to these areas; other regions are also reporting problems, although less frequently. The current situation requires timely intervention to ensure an efficient service for both citizens and pharmacies.
