A disturbing disappearance
Maria Zaccaria and Pietro Montanino, a newlywed couple, returned home after four days of absence, leaving their two young children with their grandparents. Upon their return, they calmly responded to the police, saying:
“We set out on a short journey, and now we are tired.”
The mystery of the journey
The couple, residents of Cesa (Caserta), got married on October 25 and disappeared on October 29. They were found in Frattamaggiore (Naples), precisely by their paternal grandparents. Here they had initially left their children aged seven months and seven years. It is assumed that Maria and Pietro were looking for a new home, or perhaps they were simply on their honeymoon.
The Prosecutor’s Office of Naples North is evaluating the situation for possible responsibilities and it is not excluded that they may face a complaint for abandonment of a minor. In the meantime, the mayor of Cesa, Enzo Guida, has activated social services to verify the custody of the children.
The reappearance and the investigations
This morning, Maria and Pietro re-emerged from his parents. They picked up their newborn son and drove back to Cesa. Here they also hugged their eldest son, born from Maria’s previous marriage.
After their appearance, the Carabinieri of the local station went to the couple’s home to gather information on what happened.
It turned out that after dropping off the children, Maria and Pietro had walked to the Naples train station, where they took a train to an unknown destination. The couple’s last communication was on Tuesday afternoon at 5:00 PM, when Maria contacted her sister-in-law to remind her to pick up her eldest son from soccer.
A situation to clarify
From the first investigations, no economic problems or threats against the couple seem to emerge; both have stable jobs: he is a security guard and she works in a cleaning company. Their disappearance has caused great concern among the communities of Caserta and Naples. Mayors and even parish priests have launched appeals to track down the two newlyweds.
Only Maria and Pietro know the real reasons for their separation, but the authorities continue to monitor the situation carefully.
