McLaren driver Lando Norris took pole position for the Brazilian Grand Prix. Behind him were Mercedes' George Russell and Yuki Tsunoda in his Racing Bull. Charles Leclerc finished qualifying in sixth place. Qualifying took place on Sunday, after being postponed due to heavy rain at the Interlagos circuit, and was marred by several interruptions.

Due to adverse weather conditions, the start of the race was brought forward to 16:30 Italian time instead of the initially scheduled 18:00.
