Brazilian Grand Prix: The Crucial Phases
Red Flag and Accidents
Nearly halfway through the race, with 32 of 69 laps completed, the red flag was raised after an incident involving the Williams of Franco Colapinto, who spun due to the increasing rain. The race stopped with Alpine’s Esteban Ocon leading, followed by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, while McLaren’s Lando Norris was fourth and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was seventh.
Start and Qualifying
The race got off to a delayed start due to an accident with Lance Stroll’s Aston Martin. After a ten-minute wait to remove the car from the track, the Brazilian Grand Prix finally got underway. On a wet track, Mercedes' George Russell took the lead, followed by Norris. Meanwhile, Verstappen began a remarkable comeback, moving from 17th to 11th on the first lap.
Lando Norris took pole position with a time of 1:23.405, ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Racing Bulls of Yuki Tsunoda. Charles Leclerc finished qualifying in sixth place. The qualifying sessions, held on Sunday after the postponement due to heavy rain at the Interlagos circuit, were marked by several interruptions.
Weather Conditions and Penalties
Weather conditions forced the organizers to bring forward the start of the race to 16:30 Italian time, instead of 18:00. Numerous red flags were shown due to the accidents involving not only Colapinto, but also Carlos Sainz, Lance Stroll, Fernando Alonso and Alex Albon, all without serious consequences.
Max Verstappen, penalized by the red flag for Stroll’s accident, was unable to improve his time and will start from 17th place due to a penalty received for not respecting the Delta Time. Carlos Sainz will also have to face a comeback from 14th position, while Lewis Hamilton is struggling in 16th place on the starting grid.
