Tension in US Elections
It’s really just a few days away from the US elections and tensions are sky-high. Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are practically tied in the polls, while they continue to travel incessantly from one swing state to another.
Trump’s Attack on the Press
In the last few hours available, the Republican candidate has attracted attention with a violent attack against the media. During a rally in Pennsylvania, he said:
“To kill me, someone would have to shoot through the journalists present and I wouldn’t mind that much.”
Trump accused the press of being grossly corrupt, speaking for nearly three hours in the state he won in 2016. According to a New York Times/Siena College poll, Trump and Harris are now tied at 48%.
The Corruption Charges
“Kamala Harris is a left-wing extremist and she is totally corrupt," Trump said, insinuating that the election could be rigged. This strategy, according to some analysts, could set the stage for an early declaration of victory, moving the battle from the ballot box to the courtroom, as already happened in 2020.
Trump also took aim at the latest poll on Iowa, a state that both candidates seem to consider lost or won. The Des Moines Register/Mediacom poll shows Harris with 47% of the vote, compared to 44% for the tycoon. Trump called the news “a lie,” claiming that he has data showing her 10 points ahead of her rival.
The Harris Approach
On the other side, Kamala Harris won the support of actor Harrison Ford and appeared on Saturday Night Live, a risky appearance for a politician not used to the stage.
Alongside Maya Rudolph, who has played her for years, Harris showed ease and wittiness, joking about her nickname “momala.” She also poked fun at Trump’s inability to “open doors,” referencing a video of the Republican struggling with a doorknob.
Back on a more official note, the vice president visited a historic black church in Detroit, Michigan, where she urged Americans to overcome hatred and division.
