The UK Conservative Party has elected Kemi Badenoch, a 44-year-old former industry minister, daughter of Nigerian parents and representative of the pro-Brexit right-wing party, as its new leader. This choice came after Rishi Sunak’s election defeat on July 4. Badenoch, who is inspired by some aspects of Donald Trump’s politics, has the ambition of becoming the first black woman to run for prime minister in British history. In the final run-off, she prevailed over 42-year-old Robert Jenrick, known for his rigorous anti-immigration positions. The results were made official today.
