There will be no definitive information until Monday regarding the return of the body of Massimiliano Galletti, the Civil Protection rescuer from San Benedetto del Tronto, who died after a month in a coma in a Kiev hospital. The embassy has communicated to the family’s lawyer, Carla Tiboni, that the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has yet to make a decision regarding a possible autopsy and the authorization for the repatriation of the body to Italy.

In the meantime, an international funeral agency has been contacted, which is in charge of managing the transport of the coffin by land, since the airspace is currently closed. Galletti, a specialist in guiding molecular dogs, was in Ukraine as a volunteer to support the rescue operations in Kharkiv. There, unfortunately, he was hit by a shrapnel from an RPG (a type of mortar), which left him no chance. After a month spent in a coma, the man lost his life.

The situation remains delicate and the family anxiously awaits official news to be able to say their last goodbye to their loved one. The local community expressed deep condolences for the passing of Galletti, remembering his commitment and dedication in providing help in times of crisis. His tragic end has aroused strong emotion among those who knew him and among all those who appreciate the value of volunteering and humanitarian assistance.

The hope is that in the next few hours clearer news will arrive regarding the procedures necessary for the return of the body. The family is going through a particularly difficult time and every update will be crucial to be able to deal with the pain of loss and organize the funeral in the most dignified way possible. Galletti will be remembered not only for his professionalism but also for his altruistic spirit and desire to help others even in the most complex contexts.
