Three days after the tragedy caused by Dana in the Valencia region, the death toll has risen to 158, while the search for the missing continues unabated, with numbers still uncertain. The situation remains critical, with around 366,000 residents in about twenty municipalities without access to drinking water and 50,000 people without electricity.

The floods have caused water pipes to break, making it difficult to clean the mud that has hardened in some areas. Today, another 500 soldiers will join the more than 1,200 already present to address the emergency in the area, where the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, is also expected. The main objective is to provide essential goods such as water, food and medicine to the populations affected by the disaster.

The Valencian Community will be without rail links to Madrid and partly to Catalonia for at least two weeks due to the serious damage suffered by the rail network. In addition, 150 main roads have been affected and several sections of the A7 motorway that connects Valencia to Madrid are closed, causing long queues of cars stopped on the sides of the road.

So far, 158 victims have been recovered, with autopsies carried out in a temporary morgue set up in a car park. 15 people have already been identified. An additional morgue has been created at the Valencia Fair to house the remaining bodies recovered from the rescue operations. The situation remains critical and the authorities are working tirelessly to alleviate the hardship of the affected communities and restore essential services as quickly as possible.
