Trevi Fountain Without Water Find Out Whats Happening
The Trevi Fountain is currently without water to allow for restoration work that is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
The Trevi Fountain has been completely emptied to allow for restoration work that should be completed by the end of the year. To allow tourists and visitors to continue throwing coins, a white basin has been placed near the fence that delimits the construction site. This monument, among the most famous and appreciated in the Italian capital, welcomes about 12 thousand visitors a day and is known throughout the world through images.
On October 7, extraordinary maintenance work began, managed by the Capitoline Superintendency and financed through resources called “Caput Mundi”. The area of the fountain has been fenced off with transparent panels that allow you to admire the monument while preventing direct access. The basin, now completely devoid of water, will be the subject of targeted interventions to preserve its beauty.
Once the work is completed, a walkway will be built that will allow tourists to observe the fountain from above and will help manage the flow of visitors in the area more effectively. The choice to install a basin to collect coins has sparked various reactions on social media; although there has been some irony, many have recognized the intelligence of the idea, which allows the tradition of throwing coins while the work is being carried out to be kept alive.
The previous restoration, which took place in 2015 thanks to the contribution of the Fendi fashion house, cost 2 million and 180 thousand euros. Also in that case, the intervention was entirely carried out by Italian companies, involving technicians from the superintendency and adopting an innovative approach. The Trevi Fountain continues to represent an iconic symbol of the eternal city, capable of attracting visitors from every corner of the planet even during the restoration periods.
