Israel steps up airstrikes Lebanon in grave danger

In southern Lebanon, in Tyre, Israeli warplanes struck two buildings near the Imam Hussein compound, Lebanese daily L’Orient Le Jour reported. Other Israeli military operations targeted several areas in the region, including a house in the village of Arab Salim, near Nabatieh. A senior United Nations official expressed concern about the potential damage to Lebanon’s historic cities of Tyre and Baalbek from the airstrikes. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, the UN special coordinator for Lebanon, warned that the cultural heritage, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was at risk of destruction and stressed that it should not become a casualty of the ongoing conflict.

The United States has urged Lebanon to declare a unilateral ceasefire with Israel to revive the stalled talks between Israel and Hezbollah. However, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati denied that such a request was made by the United States through its envoy Amos Hochstein. In another tragic development, an Israeli attack on the Nuseirat refugee camp in the Gaza Strip has left at least 10 Palestinians dead. According to local sources, overnight raids in central Gaza have left 47 Palestinians dead and many injured, with a significant number of casualties among women and children.

Israel is on high alert for possible retaliation from Iran after recent attacks on Iranian targets. Tensions have risen further after the head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards warned of a devastating response to attacks on Iranian military facilities. At the same time, a United Nations official denounced Israel’s ban on the UNRWA agency as a death sentence for millions of Palestinians in Gaza, already severely affected by the humanitarian crisis.

Overnight, the Israeli Air Force intercepted a drone launched from Syria and detected rockets coming from Lebanon. In addition, airstrikes on the southern outskirts of Beirut led to the death of two people and the wounding of four others. The US Secretary of Defense reiterated the United States' commitment to protecting its citizens and allies from Iranian threats. The climate of instability continues to grow with Israeli military operations causing serious damage to humanitarian infrastructure in the Palestinian territory.
