A network of alleged cyber-spies was developing a project defined as “secret in the heart”, as stated by Nunzio Samuele Calamucci, considered the main figure of the group, currently under house arrest together with the former super policeman Carmine Gallo. This plan, called ‘Safe Harbour’ or ‘Porto Sicuro’, was conceived to guarantee “security reasons” in case of investigations and controls.
According to the documents, the initiative, launched last May and wanted by Calamucci to facilitate the illicit activities of the group from via Pattari, involved the creation of the company ‘Safe Harbour’, with registered office in Reggio Emilia and a “modest share capital”. This approach would have allowed the group to move resources from other companies, in particular from Equalize, and to separate the cycle of training, production and distribution of reports from the management of the Beyond platform.
In a phone conversation on September 5, Calamucci spoke with Gallo and Enrico Pazzali, president of Fondazione Fiera Milano, who has suspended himself while under investigation and runs Equalize. During the conversation, Calamucci emphasized how the company was transforming into an exclusive boutique for long-time customers and mentioned new offices they were due to visit soon. Repeating that they were becoming a boutique, Calamucci highlighted the change underway.
Pazzali asked if he was referring to their company, to which Gallo confirmed: “yes of course.” Pazzali continued ironically about how they started out as Ikea, prompting laughter from the participants in the conversation. This exchange highlights the group’s ambitions in the classified information sector and their strategy to position themselves as leading players in the market. The communications between the three clearly show an awareness of the legal implications of their actions and an attempt to keep a low profile while continuing to operate in the shadows. The situation is complex and reveals a disturbing picture of the clandestine operations they were trying to develop under the guise of a legitimate business.
