The Trevi Fountain is currently without water to allow for restoration work that is expected to be completed by the end of the year. To allow both Italian and foreign tourists to continue the traditional coin toss, a white basin has been placed near the construction site fence. This monument, considered one of the most beautiful and iconic in Rome, attracts around 12,000 visitors a day and is famous throughout the world, at least through images.

The extraordinary maintenance works began on October 7 and are managed by the Capitoline Superintendency, with funding from the “Caput Mundi” project. The fountain area has been fenced off with transparent panels that allow you to admire the structure but prevent direct access. Currently, the fountain basin is completely dry.

Once the work is completed, a walkway will be installed that will give visitors the opportunity to observe the monument from above and will also facilitate better management of the flow of tourists in the area. The decision to install the coin pool has sparked various reactions on social media, with many expressing irony while others have stressed that it was a sensible choice to protect the area and ensure that the work can continue without interruption, keeping alive the tradition of throwing coins to make a wish.

The previous restoration project dates back to 2015 and was carried out by the Fendi fashion house, costing 2 million and 180 thousand euros. That project also saw the exclusive participation of Italian companies, involving technicians from the superintendency and a particularly innovative approach. This new restoration adds to the long history of the Trevi Fountain, a symbol not only of the eternal city but also of Italian artistic beauty, attracting millions of visitors from all over the world every year.
