Cybersecurity at the centre of Parliaments question time

Today, Wednesday 30 October, question time was held live from the Chamber of Deputies, broadcast by Rai Parlamento.

Minister for Relations with Parliament Luca Ciriani said that strengthening the cybersecurity of institutions has been a priority objective since the beginning of the current Government. He stressed that the vulnerabilities of computer networks were already evident before the Executive was formed. Ciriani also mentioned investigations underway in Milan, highlighting how some alleged crimes date back to 2021 and 2022. Responding to a question from Davide Faraone (IV) on urgent measures to protect public databases containing sensitive information following recent cyber attacks, the minister highlighted the work underway to strengthen the organizational structure of the Agency for Cyber ​​Security (ACN), and referred to the approval of Law No. 90 in June 2024.

Ciriani explained that a new configuration of the Cybersecurity Unit has been planned, which includes the National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor and the Governor of the Bank of Italy. This unit recently met at the Agency to discuss prevention tools against ransomware, chaired by Prefect Bruno Frattasi.

During the session, Ciriani also responded to a question regarding changes to access fees to limited traffic zones in view of the Jubilee of the Catholic Church, presented by Foti (FDI).

The Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio, responded to several questions regarding the regulations aimed at strengthening the public prosecutor’s powers of control over wiretaps conducted by the judicial police and measures against illegal access to databases. He also addressed the issue of government policies on wiretaps and the adaptation of the Ministry’s IT infrastructure against external attacks.

The Minister of Labor and Social Policies, Marina Elvira Calderone, addressed questions related to the protection of riders and the fight against low wages in contracting companies.

Finally, the Minister for Family, Eugenia Roccella, responded on medical obligations arising from the legislation on surrogacy abroad and on the allocation of funds for the freedom income and for policies against violence against women. She also discussed initiatives to protect the single allowance in relation to the observations of the European Commission.
