The Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed the request for a trial for Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè and others accused of false accounting in the Visibilia case. During the preliminary hearing, prosecutors Marina Gravina and Luigi Luzi supported their accusations that also involve comrade Dimitri Kunz, former comrade Canio Giovanni Mazzaro, sister Fiorella Garnero and several companies linked to the senator of Fratelli d’Italia, from which she resigned from her positions. The prosecutors stated that “everyone was aware of the irregularities and chose to remain silent”, including Daniela Santanchè.
The accusation focuses on the alleged falsification of the financial statements between 2016 and 2022 for Visibilia Editore spa, from 2016 to 2020 for Visibilia srl in liquidation and from 2021 to 2022 for Visibilia Editrice srl. According to the accusation, a correct preparation of the financial statements would have revealed losses of share capital starting from the 2016 financial statements for Visibilia Editore spa, from 2014 for Visibilia srl and from 2021 for Visibilia Editrice srl.
During the preliminary hearing, three small savers were accepted as civil parties, while three defendants, including Visibilia Editore and Visibilia srl, expressed their intention to plea bargain. The request for indictment involves a total of sixteen people. Prosecutors Gravina and Luzi explained that the investigations arose from a complaint filed in civil court by minority shareholders, including entrepreneur Giuseppe Zeno, represented by lawyer Antonio Piantadosi. The civil parties and defenses will speak out in the next hearings. The decision of preliminary hearing judge Anna Magelli is expected on November 26.
As for the twenty defendants, including the minister, the request for indictment focuses on seventeen specific cases. Federico Celoria, a former board member, has opted for a plea bargain, while two of the companies involved, Visibilia Editore and Visibilia Editrice (excluding the third company in liquidation), have agreed on an administrative sanction. The next hearing is scheduled for the afternoon with the first interventions of the defense.
