Air strikes conducted by US forces have killed at least 35 ISIS members earlier this week. The strikes targeted several ISIS positions in the Syrian desert, including some of the group’s top leaders, US Central Command (Centcom) reported on social media. Centcom also stressed that there were no reports of civilian casualties following the strikes on October 28. Currently, around 900 US troops are present in Syria as part of the international coalition against ISIS.

Naim Qassem, the new secretary general of Hezbollah, said the movement would accept a ceasefire with Israel, but only under certain conditions. He said no proposal satisfactory to both sides had been presented so far. In his first speech as leader of the Lebanese Shiite movement, Qassem confirmed his intention to follow the military strategy of his predecessor, Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed by the Israelis last month, promising to continue the program developed by Nasrallah.

U.S. mediators are trying to secure a deal to halt hostilities between the Israeli military and Hezbollah, proposing a 60-day ceasefire. Sources familiar with the talks said the period is intended to ensure the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, adopted in 2006 to keep southern Lebanon free of weapons outside state control.

Meanwhile, mediators involved in the Gaza negotiations are preparing a proposal for a temporary truce with Hamas that would last less than a month. The proposal includes exchanging Israeli and Palestinian hostages held in Israel and increasing humanitarian aid for Gaza. U.S. officials believe a temporary agreement could help build a more lasting understanding.

The Israeli military also issued evacuation warnings to residents of the Lebanese city of Baalbek. Hezbollah said it carried out drone strikes against an Israeli base in the south of the country, and a Lebanese security official reported the death of a man in an Israeli strike on an ammunition depot. The Israeli Air Force struck more than 100 targets linked to Hezbollah and said it had eliminated several of the group’s militants. At least 143 Palestinians have been killed in recent strikes in the Gaza Strip. Tehran condemned Israel’s actions against the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), calling them a violation of human rights.
