The question time broadcast live by Rai from the Chamber of Montecitorio, edited by Rai Parlamento, is currently taking place. The Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio, expressed strong concern about the recent events related to the theft of data, defining the situation as unacceptable and a serious danger for democracy. He underlined how strengthening cyber security has been a priority of the Government since the beginning of its mandate, highlighting that the vulnerability of the networks had already emerged before the current Executive.

Luca Ciriani, Minister for Relations with Parliament, responded to a question from Davide Faraone (IV) regarding urgently needed measures to protect public databases. He described the ongoing efforts to strengthen the Agency for Cyber Security (ACN) and the approval of Law No. 90 in June 2024 as a significant step. Ciriani explained that the reform includes the expansion of public entities required to report cyber incidents and has introduced obligations to appoint cyber security referents.

Furthermore, rules have been established to coordinate investigations into cyber incidents without hindering the recovery of affected systems. Ciriani highlighted the importance of ensuring that strategic IT goods and services meet high cybersecurity standards, in order to protect the country’s technological independence. Penalties for serious cyber crimes have been increased, especially when they involve critical national systems.

Ciriani also mentioned the configuration of the Cybersecurity Nucleus that involves key figures such as the National Anti-Mafia Prosecutor and the Governor of the Bank of Italy. This nucleus recently met to discuss prevention tools against ransomware.

The ministers responded to numerous questions on various topics, from workplace safety to workers' rights in the gig economy. Regarding the Jubilee of the Catholic Church, Ciriani explained that an ordinance was issued by the Government’s Special Commissioner to allow for derogations from existing rules in order to manage tourist flows. This tariff remodulation is conceived not only as an economic measure but also as a tool to reduce the influx of buses into central areas of the city.

The provisions adopted are designed to ensure safety during the Jubilee celebrations and reflect a pragmatic approach in managing the emergency linked to the expected increase in pilgrims.
