The television series inspired by the tragic story of Sarah Scazzi has finally received the green light for broadcast. The reference to Avetrana, a town in Puglia where the 15-year-old was murdered in 2010, has been removed from the title, which is now “This Is Not Hollywood.” The series will be available on Disney+ starting October 30. Mayor Antonio Iazzi has stated that every necessary action will be taken to ensure that the name of Avetrana is excluded from any promotion related to the series.

Presented at the Rome Film Festival and directed by Pippo Mezzapesa, the series starring Vanessa Scalera was scheduled for October 25. However, two days earlier, the Civil Court of Taranto accepted the appeal of Mayor Iazzi, ordering the suspension of programming until the title was changed, considered harmful to the image of the community.

Director Mezzapesa stressed the importance of respecting the stories and the people involved. The trade associations of Italian authors and directors expressed concern about the Court’s decision, but the title change was later announced. In an official note, representatives of the production company Groenlandia and Walt Disney Company Italia confirmed the adjustment to the court’s order and the awaiting of the hearing set for November 5.

Mayor Iazzi stated: “We have made sure to protect the image of the community that I represent and we will continue to work to ensure that the rights of citizens are protected”. He also highlighted the importance of the hashtag “#IOSonoAvetrana…not just a name”, underlining the strong sense of belonging of the population and the will to defend the dignity of the territory.

The series is based on the book “Sarah la ragazza di Avetrana”, written by Carmine Gazzanni and Flavia Piccinni, published by Fandango Libri. The screenplay was written by Pippo Mezzapesa together with Antonella W. Gaeta, Davide Serino, Carmine Gazzanni and Flavia Piccinni. The production is handled by Matteo Rovere through Groenlandia. The cast also includes Paolo De Vita in the role of Michele Misseri, Giulia Perulli as Sabrina Misseri, Imma Villa in the role of Concetta Serrano and Federica Pala in the role of Sarah Scazzi. Anna Ferzetti plays the journalist Daniela, Giancarlo Commare is Ivano and Antonio Gerardi takes on the role of Marshal Persichella.
