Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is in Tripoli to participate in the Italy-Libya Business Forum. Upon arrival at Mitiga airport, she was received by the Minister of State for Prime Minister’s Affairs, Adel Juma, and the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Alberini. Afterwards, Meloni continued to the International Fair where she was welcomed by the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Mohammed Dabaiba.

During her speech at the forum, Meloni announced the return of Ita Airways to connect Italy and Libya starting from January 2025. She expressed with pride that Italy was the first Western nation to lift restrictions on business travel to Libya. The President emphasized that this is her fourth visit to the North African country since she took over the reins of the Italian government. The frequency of reciprocal visits between the two countries reflects a well-defined political choice by the Italian government: the relationship with Libya is considered a priority for both Italy and Europe.

Meloni highlighted how cooperation between Italy and Libya has not yet reached its full potential and underlined the importance of further strengthening ties between the two nations. The meeting is part of a context of growing economic and political interest in Libya, with the hope of developing mutual trade and investment opportunities.

Meloni’s visit comes at a crucial time for bilateral relations, aiming to build a future of collaboration. The president reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to supporting Libya’s stability and development, recognizing that a prosperous country in the Mediterranean represents a benefit not only for Italians but also for the whole of Europe.

Participation in the forum therefore represents a significant step towards strengthening economic and political ties between the two countries. With a common vision oriented towards growth and cooperation, Italy and Libya can work together to address future challenges.
