Currently, many countries need the support of migrants. In Italy, the birth rate is very low and the average age of the population is 46 years. Therefore, the country needs to welcome migrants, supporting them in their integration process and promoting their contribution to society. It is essential to recognize this reality. Pope Francis expressed these considerations during a meeting with the Scalabrinians.
The Pontiff described migrants as “teachers of hope.” Growing up in a family of migrant origin, Bergoglio emphasized the importance of aspiring to improve one’s life and that of one’s family. He recalled the words of St. John Baptist Scalabrini, according to whom many leave with the hope of finding elsewhere the opportunities necessary to live with dignity. Despite the difficulties encountered along the way, these individuals never give up and continue to fight for a better future.
